Dedication to my little flame
"Even though the past enjoyments which return to my memory are the clear cause of my unhappiness right now, it is not disagreeable for me, oh cruel lady, to revive in my tired mind from time to time the pleasant image of your great loveliness. That is what makes my resolve stronger than I could have made it alone, that image made me the servant and the subject of Love, in a time still young in years and wisdom. However often it enters my mind, I consider sincerely with my soul to believe myself to be in Heaven, rather than human in essence. The clear and real effect is the best proof that what I believe is true, because when my mind’s eye perceives it, a hidden charm stirs up in my poor heart, almost making it, in constant human gentleness, to forget its own pain. It inspires all by itself in my heart and mind the thought, the one that says to me: “this is “the little flame” this, Fiammetta, the light from her beautiful eyes has set the eyes of my soul on fire, and she who has already brought from her actions great happiness to our burning desires...."
